OVERVIEW

Originally opened in 1925 under the name of hotel Santa Rosa, El Albergue is a historic and romantic hotel, located in the Ollantaytambo train station little more than an hour away from Machu Picchu and the city of Cusco.

At El Albergue the gardens are visited by hummingbirds and engulfed by the aroma of fuchsia, passionflower, peaches and avocado trees. 

During your stay, you may spend days visiting the archeological sites of Ollantaytambo, Pisaq and Moray; river rafting; biking; horseback riding and enjoying the beauty, cuisine and culture of the Andes – or simply relaxing in our hammocks and sauna.

Standard Rooms

The Standard double King, Twin or triple rooms are located in El Albergue’s main building, a beautiful and historic edifice overlooking the train platform with a balcony entrance boasting excellent views of the gardens and surrounding mountains. The Standard Double rooms have one double bed and one twin bed and a private bathroom. There are no TVs in these rooms. These rooms are located on the second floor.

The rate includes full breakfast of both buffet with made-to order dishes and access to our natural eucalyptus steam sauna. All rooms are equipped with complimentary WiFi, bottled water, fresh fruit, and security box.

Double Plus:

The Double Plus room occupies the whole second story of a small house set in the middle of the hotel grounds, further from the train platform than the Standard rooms but not quite as tucked back as the Superior rooms or the Casita. This room has its own staircase with a private balcony atop where you can sit, relax, and enjoy views of the surrounding gardens. The Double Plus has one double bed and one twin bed and a private bathroom. There are no TVs in this room. This room is on the second floor.

The rate includes full breakfast of both buffet with made-to order dishes and access to our natural eucalyptus steam sauna. All rooms are equipped with complimentary WiFi, bottled water, fresh fruit, and security box.

Superior Garden:

The Superior Garden rooms are located in two buildings concealed in the El Albergue Gardens, furthest from the train platform. Relax in the hammocks under fragrant jasmine and watch the hummingbirds. The Superior Garden rooms have one queen bed and one twin bed and a private bathroom. An extra twin bed can be added to accommodate up to four guests. There are no TVs in these rooms. These rooms are located on the ground floor.

The Superior Balcony rooms are located in two buildings concealed in the El Albergue Gardens, furthest from the train platform.  Walk out onto the balcony for breathtaking views of the mountains and glaciers of the Sacred Valley.  The Superior Balcony rooms have one queen bed and one twin bed and a private bathroom.  There are no TVs in these rooms. Albergue Casita:

Perfect for families or guests who desire extra space, the Casita is our newest accommodation which features two bedrooms and an en-suite bathroom.  One bedroom has a queen bed and the other bedroom has two twin beds.  Nestled into the back of the property surrounded by lush gardens, the Casita has breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and Inca terraces. Equipped with a private kitchen and dining area, guests are welcome to prepare their own meals with fresh produce right from the El Albergue Farm, upon request.  There are no TVs in this room. This room is on the ground floor.

El Albergue Restaurant

Our restaurant and café are open to hotel guests and travelers alike. Café Mayu on the train station platform offers espresso coffee, tea, cookies, brownies, sandwiches and salads. Join us in the restaurant where you will find a full menu for breakfast lunch and dinner.

We have created our menu using fresh organic ingredients from our garden and Sacred Valley offering a selection of Peruvian and European flavors. Alpaca steak, fresh salads, homemade fettuccine and fresh trout are a few items available on our menu.

In addition, we offer our Pachamanca farm lunch daily, with fresh ingredients cooked in a traditional “earth oven.” Guests dine al fresco and enjoy a meal of freshly cooked meats, vegetables, and other farm dishes while enjoying the magnificent scenery of Ollantaytambo.

Cafe Mayu 

It is located on the Ollantaytambo train station platform.  Connected to El Albergue Restaurant, we serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner as well as lite fare all-day long, offering the freshest ingredients directly from our farm.  Open early til late, come on by and to enjoy the best local beverages while watching trains and people come and go to and from Machu Picchu.  

We are proud to feature our own coffee and cañazo spirits both produced on-site at El Albergue Finka.  Enjoy these unique artisanal products in Cafe Mayu or schedule a visit to the farm for a tour of the coffee roasting facility and cañazo distillery.

• Foreigners who are not resident in Peru are exonerated from paying the 18% extra on hotel rates, and must present their Immigration card (given to them upon entrance to Peru) for this. If they do not, the hotel has every right to charge them the aformentioned percentage on top of the published rate.
